The Mission is mandated to assist the authorities and civil society with democratic development and human rights protection, including the rights of persons belonging to national minorities. To promote democratization, tolerance, the rule of law, and adherence to OSCE standards and commitments, it assists and advises on the implementation of legislation in these areas; monitors the functioning of democratic institutions and processes; provides assistances in the restructuring and training of law enforcement agencies and the judiciary; assists on media issues; and advises on and supports the return of refugees and displaced persons to their homes in Serbia.

The Organization views human rights issues as an essential component of security. The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media has an early warning function and provides rapid response to serious non-compliance with regard to free media and freedom of expression. The OSCE participating States consider freedom of expression a fundamental and internationally recognized human right and a basic component of a democratic society. Free media is essential to a free and open society and accountable governments. The Representative is mandated to observe media developments in the participating States and to advocate and promote full compliance with the Organization’s principles and commitments in respect of freedom of expression and free media.

The Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) is a research center for the study of media, communication, and information policy in Europe. Founded in 2004 as the Center for Media and Communication Studies, CMDS is part of CEU’s School of Public Policy and serves as a focal point for an international network of acclaimed scholars, research institutions and activists. In support of promoting the values of an open society CMDS produces scholarly and practice-oriented research addressing academic, policy and civil society needs, coordinates course offerings at CEU, provides trainings and consulting services and organizes scholarly exchanges through workshops, lectures and conferences on current developments in the field.

SHARE Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012, with the goal to fight for the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights, in the areas of privacy, free speech, government transparency and efficiency, surveillance and human rights. SHARE Foundation  is dedicated to protecting the rights of Internet citizens and promoting positive values of openness, decentralization, free access and exchange of knowledge, information and technology. The SHARE Foundation believes that the Internet and digital media will be fundamental for achieving democratic change in society as a tool for improvement of government accountability and transparency, and socioeconomic empowerment of citizens. The activities of SHARE Foundation are supported by cooperation and friendship with a wide network of various institutions, individuals and organizations. Our work is based on two main components: SHARE Conference, that promotes Internet culture and technology to a wider Internet community and engages key opinion makers in the field; and SHARE Defense which works as a think tank unit that conducts legal research, provides pro bono legal aid and is actively involved in the decision making processes.
